Project Description
The lack of marine infrastructure has effectively isolated Nunavut’s communities from the opportunities present in our surrounding waters. Improving the community-marine connection will support Inuit traditional livelihoods and foster new economic activity to promote healthy, self-reliant communities.
QBDC is the project manager for the construction of the Hamlet of Kinngait’s sealift safety project. QBDC supported the Hamlet to secure funding and initiate a project to assess the needs and options for improving the community’s marine infrastructure.
QBDC helped the Hamlet to prepare funding applications, solicit a consultant through a public procurement process and prepare reporting for the funding programs. QBDC was successful in leveraging funding from CanNor and the Government of Nunavut to support this project. Construction on the upgrades began in 2023.
