Project Description
The Aqsarniit Hotel and Conference Centre is a 100 percent Inuit-owned hotel and conference facility in Nunavut’s Capital, Iqaluit. The hotel construction began in 2018 and its doors opened in 2020.
The facility provides a new standard in comfort, hospitality, cuisine and conference capabilities. It boasts 94 luxury guestrooms, an 80-seat dining room, 186-seat lounge and 7,200 square feet of modern conference facilities.
The hotel advanced an innovative construction method integrating both modular components and conventional construction techniques. The main floor is a conventional steel frame build and the hotel 4-storey tower is composed of modular units. The tower was erected within ten days significantly reducing construction time and realizing cost savings.
The majority of the work to build the hotel was performed by Nunavut companies with the exception of a few specialty contractors. The project was managed by Qikiqtaaluk Business Development Corporation and construction was led by NCC Development Ltd.
