Qikiqtaaluk Logistics Awarded Cape Dyer, DYE-MAIN DEW Line site Remediation Clean-up

Qikiqtaaluk Logistics Inc. (QL) is proud to announce that on the 14th, of June 2011 Defence Construction of Canada awarded the DYE-Main Dew Line Site remediation contract to Qikiqtaaluk Logistics.
DYE-M Cape Dyer was a Main DEW Line Site Built in the 1950’s. The site was decommissioned in 1989 and is now part of the North Warning System. The final Site Clean-up will take place between 2011 and completed in 2013 by Qikiqtaaluk Logistics.
Qikiqtaaluk Logistics is pleased also to note that this is the first time that a wholly Inuit owned Corporation will conduct a remediation project as the prime contractor with Defence Construction Canada. The success was largely because QL is now able to secure the bonding necessary for this scale of project.
Mr. Flaherty – President said that “QL plans to employ approximately over a 100 employees for this project site. Positions ranging from Heavy Equipment Operators, Polar Bear Monitors, Supervisors, to Camp Attendants”. The communities most impacted by the project are Qikiqtarjuaq, Pangnirtung, and Clyde River.
Providing employment and training initiatives are a priority for QL, and is part of its mandate. Mr. Flaherty added that QL plans to provide Training in the following fields, Cooks and kitchen management, HEO’s, HAZMAT/Asbestos/PAP Removal Technicians, Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, and First Aid.
“Securing this project with DCC shows that the capacity that we have built through other major remediation projects in Nunavut provided the bonding company and DCC with the confidence they needed to give the job to a wholly Inuit owned firm. We look forward to the challenge that Cape Dyer offers as well as the chance to work together with DCC on the successful completion
of this contract, added Mr. Flaherty”.
